Spend on: an extra night (more sightings per ringgit than any upgrade) and, for birders, a specialist guide. Save on: footwear (RM 15 adidas kampung outperform RM 800 boots here) and Lahad Datu hotels. The Field Centre isn't a compromise on the forest — only on the pillow.
