Two properties operate inside Danum Valley Conservation Area: the luxury Borneo Rainforest Lodge and the budget-friendly Danum Valley Field Centre. Both put you in front of the same wildlife — the difference is comfort level and price.
Budget first — the Field Centre 3D2N from RM 1,950. The classic Danum experience — Borneo Rainforest Lodge 3D2N from RM 4,600. Serious about wildlife — add a night: 4D3N from RM 2,760. Every price on this page is verified against the operator's live rates (checked September 2026).

Stay longer — more nights, more wildlife

The extra day adds deeper trails, a second night activity, and better odds at the rare stuff — sightings are a numbers game, and one more dawn in the forest matters more than any chalet upgrade.
4D3N rate is the Field Centre Malaysian rate; 5D4N rate is the Borneo Rainforest Lodge lowest per-person tier. Full breakdowns below.
All prices are "from" rates per person and are confirmed in your written quote before any payment — rates vary by room category, season, and group size.
Which Danum Valley package?
Three questions decide it: your budget, how many nights you can give the forest, and whether this trip is a once-in-a-lifetime splurge or one stop on a longer Borneo route.
| Your situation | Do this | From |
|---|---|---|
| Comfort matters, 2 nights is enough | Borneo Rainforest Lodge 3D2N — the classic, and the one most people book | RM 4,600 |
| Budget first, same wildlife | Field Centre 3D2N — hostel or resthouse room | RM 1,950 |
| Serious about wildlife or photography | 4D3N or 5D4N at either property — sightings are a numbers game, and the extra dawn matters more than the chalet | RM 2,760 |
| Special occasion or honeymoon | BRL Premium Deluxe chalet — private outdoor tub, riverside deck | RM 5,900 |
| Combining with Sepilok / Kinabatangan | Choose the combo option in the form — one itinerary, one price, transfers linked up | — |
| Genuinely not sure | Pick "Not sure yet — send options" in the form: you'll get two or three costed options, not a sales pitch | — |
"From" prices above are Malaysian resident rates for the Field Centre and the lowest per-person tier for Borneo Rainforest Lodge — see the full pricing tables further down this page for international visitor rates and other occupancy tiers.

How the 3D2N actually runs, day by day
Day 1 — Coast, then rainforest. Your day starts at the operator's lounge in Lahad Datu, then heads to Darvel Bay for a morning of snorkeling: Blue Ring Reef — Malaysia's only known double marine blue hole — the coral gardens of Laila Reef, and a sunken 1980s cargo ship at Pulau Baik that's now a thriving reef. After a seaside lunch, the 4WD transfer takes you inland through the conservation area — keep your camera ready, wildlife is often spotted from the road. Check in at the lodge with a welcome drink and briefing, then after dinner your first guided night walk or night drive.
Day 2 — The full Danum day. Breakfast, then the guided trek to the Viewpoint and the ancient Dusun burial site at Coffin Cliff, with a refreshing dip at the natural Jacuzzi Pool on the way back. After lunch, walk the canopy walkway — 314 m long, suspended 27 m above the forest floor — or add optional paid activities like river rafting or jungle cycling. Guided night walk or night drive after dinner.
Day 3 — Departure. Optional early-morning jungle walk, breakfast and some leisure time, then the roughly two-hour transfer back to Lahad Datu for your onward flight.
Exact timings are confirmed by the lodge before departure. Wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed — this is wild, unhabituated forest, which is the entire point.

What a Danum Valley package includes — and why you need one
You can't visit Danum Valley independently: entry permits are only issued through lodge bookings, all trails are guided, and there's no public transport on the 82 km gravel road. A Danum Valley package bundles everything the conservation area requires — permit, licensed guide, full-board meals, accommodation, and return 4WD transfers from Lahad Datu — into one per-person price. Every package on this page runs on that all-inclusive basis, for 2026 and 2027 departures.
What to pack for your Danum Valley package
The short version: leech socks, good walking shoes (or cheap local "adidas kampung" rubber shoes bought in Lahad Datu), lightweight long clothing, DEET insect repellent, a head torch, raincoat, refillable water bottle, swimwear for the Jacuzzi Pool, binoculars, and cash — there are no ATMs beyond Lahad Datu. Full details in our complete packing list.
The final 82 km into the valley is an unpaved gravel road — a genuinely bumpy 2–2.5 hour 4WD ride. Chalets are fan-cooled with natural ventilation, not air-conditioned. Phone signal and internet are minimal to none. Optional activities like river rafting and the Darvel Bay snorkeling leg run only when weather and water levels allow, and the lodge may re-order the day's schedule. Wildlife is fully wild — sightings can never be guaranteed. If any of this is a dealbreaker, Danum Valley may not be your trip; if it sounds like the point, you'll love it here.
Licensed guide, conservation area permit, full-board meals, return 4WD transfer from Lahad Datu, and the lodge's scheduled daily activities — guided treks plus evening night walks or drives as programmed.
Not included: flights to Lahad Datu, tourism tax (RM10/room/night), peak-season surcharge (confirmed in your quote), optional paid activities (river rafting, jungle cycling, tree climbing & abseiling), alcoholic drinks, and gratuities.
How booking works
1. Send the form below with your travel month, group size and which package interests you — thirty seconds, no payment details.
2. Within one working day Remarkable Borneo emails you a day-by-day itinerary and an exact price for your dates, room category and group size — a written quote, not an estimate.
3. Change anything you like. Swap the lodge, add nights, bolt on Sepilok or the Kinabatangan — the quote is adjusted until it fits.
4. Confirm with a deposit when you're happy; the balance is due before travel. Until then there's no obligation at all.
Everything happens by email — no phone calls unless you ask for one, and no follow-up pestering if you go quiet.
Put "Not sure yet — send options" in the form and tell us your dates, budget feel and starting point. You'll get two or three costed options side by side rather than a single hard sell.
